Vivien's dad and Victor met for dim sum and when it was almost time to pay the bill, Victor paused and said "Uncle, I would like to ask you something. I would like to ask you for your permission to marry your daughter."

Vivien's dad smiled and responded "Really. I am very happy for you. Are you ready for this?"

Victor couldn't be more ready and resoundingly answered "Yes."

The course set path and the hunt for the perfect ring began. Victor dug into Vivien's jewelery boxes and tried on all her rings, took pictures on his IPhone and brought them to jewlery stores trying to figure out her size, but to no avail. He then called Vivien's closest aunt, best friend and also conveniently a jewlery expert. Another dim sum was arranged just between Victor and her aunt. Again as the bill was about to be settled (you're probably seeing a pattern here), Victor paused and told the aunt that he is planning to propose to Vivien. Her aunt reacted with absolute joy and then jumped into a lecture on Diamonds 101.

It took a few more months for Victor to gather the diamond type and color Vivien ever dreamed of. With her Aunt's guidance, Victor finally found the perfect ring that represented Vivien's taste, style, personality and beauty.

In the middle of May, Victor called two of Vivien's closest friends - Ruby and Dana - and told them that he wanted to throw a surprise proposal. Both reacted with different variations of "OMG!" After sharing the excitment, Victor turned serious and told them that he would need their help. Victor needed Ruby's help to secure the proposal venue and decorations while Victor was on business travel. Victor needed Dana's help to organize the best welcome back Shanghai party for herself (she had just moved to Taipei) and more importantly this request from Dana is actually typical so there was no susipicion from any of Vivien's friends. Ruby and Dana flawlessly executed their assignments and the rest was left up to Victor.
