The Groom |
 |
Victor Jr. was born to Victor and Mary Tong in the Bay Area, California. Victor grew up in the backyards of Foster City idolizing Joe Montana and Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers and Tim Hardaway and Chris Mullin of the Golden State Warriors. During NFL season, he gathered his friends with his NERF for a game of street football. During NBA season, he would shoot away haphazardly with his mini hoops inside his parents home.
Throughout his first 28 years, Victor did not stray too far from home and was able to get mostly everything done within a 30 miles radius. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley studying Molecular & Cell Biology and Business Administration. He then joined Morgan Stanley's healthcare investment banking division in Menlo Park before moving to Bay City Capital, a life sciences venture capital firm in San Francisco.
In the Spring of 2012, Victor extended his radius by 6,000 miles, packed his bags and moved across the Pacific Ocean to Shanghai, China despite having no friends nor any Mandarin speaking skills. Victor has now grown to live the Shanghainese ways and is a Principal at a local China healthcare investment fund, Decheng Capital. Victor currently resides with Vivien in Shanghai. |
How We Met |
There are two different stories to when Vivien and Victor first met. The version below is based on Victor's accounts and you will have to privately message Vivien for the other version.
It was a hot summer night in Shanghai when Victor showed up to a wine tasting event hosted by Dana Howng, Vivien's roomate, in Xintiandi. As soon as the event started, Victor noticed this very tall, pretty and elegant girl in the room. Amazingly, this girl was walking towards Victor and said hello. Before a conversation could ensue, Vivien noticed Victor was eyeing the scrumptious hors d'oeuvres and politely told Victor to go get as many dishes before they run out. While satisfying his hunger, Victor and Vivien started talking about last year's Super Bowl. To Victor' surprise, Vivien accurately talked about the teams who were in the game. Victor was in complete shock that this stunning girl can talk football. It was simply a dream come true. Victor then asked Vivien on several dates, sometimes three to four dates over the course of a singleweek.
After the first month of dating, Victor knew Vivien was the one and wanted to make it official by asking her to be his girlfriend. Victor proposed the idea of planning a friends trip to Paris over Golden Week (黄金周) and Vivien hesitated at first, but then agreed to join the trip. In the middle of the trip, underneath the Eiffel Tower, Victor then asked Vivien to be his girlfriend.
